Congratulations and Well Done to
the CRS Leaders for the past two years! The Society has thrived
and improved, while keeping the course set by the preceding
elected Navigators. We owe a great deal of appreciation to the
care in maintenance of the Society affairs and minutes that has
been provided by Secretary Marge Obst. Our sound financial
footing has been guaranteed by Mike Fuss' uncounted hours
maintaining our books and processing the large number of
transactions (made even more arduous by the Elizabeth Park
Centennial rose purchases). The programs have been not only
instructive and varied, but interesting and delightful! And made
so by our Program Chair and Vice President, Marci Martin. And
coordinating not only these folks, but all the many Committee
Chairmen, as well, was our exemplary President, Dave Long. CRS
thanks them all for spending their time, and using their
abilities and ideas to make the Connecticut Rose Society a
wonderful organization for the rest of us! 6/25/07 What a wonderful Rose Show! Hope you were able to attend this year's event. It was capably coordinated by Rose Show Chair Art Emmons, and he had the willing assistance of MANY of the CRS members!! 6/19/07 New Officers credited in the Directors Section

1/13/06
Note! Email addresses for CRS President and Membership Chair have
changed. See the Contact Us page. In response the the queries (intercepted) to Dr. Rose that similarly read: "The forsythia is blooming in January, should I prune yet? The answer is NO- all references to pruning mean The April Forsythia Bloom!!! And most CR's would especially warn against pruning during the nice weekend days we have had in winter 2006-07 since that will stimulate the roses to potentially bud/leaf even more than they are because of the warmer than normal winter-to-date. The coming (delayed) cold will kill the new growth.

The Webmaster suspects that there will be a call for volunteers for the June Rose Show, at the coming meetings. Members of "Lengthy Service" continue to serve, admirably. But this is at the wanting of eager vols. to carry the torch to the future! On the weekend of the Show you may be far more important to the CRS than to the Z-monster. You Will have assistance and advice. You are Not over committing, as we are a very experienced Society and can ensure you will not feel 'surprised'. So, Think what you can do for Roses, and our Society, ... and volunteer- your time is NOW, CRS Members!! For New England non-members: go to Membership and sign up! We want you, we can help you. For others: In June, would you like to see 15,000 roses in bloom, and if you hit our Rose Show (see Calendar section), you will see hundreds of the Best Blooms on exhibition at our show (Elizabeth Park, West Hartford) that you might find Anywhere! Go to the Photography section to check out the first ones, these submitted by Gill Smits. In addition, we have prepared a list of Rose Photography Considerations which may help in future photo efforts. This is a core, currently, and more for each subsection will be added periodically. This is intended primarily for flower and garden photography- and presumes general photo knowledge to start off with. General photo information can be found throughout the Internet. Particular considerations for flowers is not well documented there, and so this is to aid. Note also, in the Links, I have some hyperlinks to Rose Photography sites.

Carol Ann Rogers' Spring Safety Check paper to the top of the Rose Culture
(by-the-month) sub-section. For those under-knowing, Carol Ann is the New
England's top guru in the area of Garden and chemical safety wrt our Rose hobby.
I strongly recommend you read and heed her advice. In addition, several of
our members were Severely affected by Lyme disease last year. You should
really pay attention to that threat- having Lyme disease is not a mere
annoyance. This disease attacks the toughest and most experienced
rosarians- a surprise attack. Be prepared... and that failing, KNOW
THE SYMPTOMS.
2/23/06
Refined the presenters for the meetings/programs later in the year.
Question to Dr. Rose re: Can I Prune Yet???
answered. The CT Agricultural Experiment Station website is found as one
of the Links found (item #5) in the
Integrated Pest Management part of the Rose Culture mega-section.
Several articles concerning the expanding threat of Lyme disease are sub-linked.
Think Deet! And since the sub-carriers are really mice, not deer, you need
to be careful everywhere- not just in deer areas. Bohica!
