It is Winter!! What shall I DO related to my Rose Hobby???
Did you finish reading the CRS newsletter? If not, be sure to do that before Other magazines are stacked on top in your periodical filing system. Re-read the web site's Timely Tips for growing roses in New England. Not allot there, or needed, for January, but read ahead while there is a quiet time, and you will be indoors instead of in the garden. Similarly, and more importantly, read up from the web site on the Other Rose Culture topics. There are a number of articles, but since there are so many they are grouped and on internal links. This makes those articles (and the 100's of Rose Photos) not very obvious to the casual site visitor. You may have to dig a bit. But when not digging out boulders and rocks from the garden, there should be time. Select your photos for the February CRS
Calendar selection meeting. Review the rules for submission on the web calendar
page (8x10, in plastic sheeting...) and have your submissions printed in
advance.
Make sure all CRS meetings and the YD Convention are on your long-term
calendar. You DID sign up for the
Convention, yes? Buy a CRS
calendar, if you have not, so that you can
plan your weekends. You may want to
do some of your garden scheduling on the calendar, in advance, as well.
Re-read (or purchase and read) Showing Good Roses.
This book is reviewed on
www.ctrose.org
in the Books section. It is Not just about showing roses, it covers all
facets of growing roses. A must-have resource in my opinion.
And since you
can't bring in a bouquet from the garden, consider a bunch of roses from the
florist for the living room!
